[9/27 Olympic Stadium, Montreal, Quebec, Canada]
[GAME 2 - MON 3, NYM 0]

After a huge emotional comeback win in game 1 the Expos rested their hopes on their ace Bill "the Spaceman" Lee in Game 2. They would not be disappointed. Lee (7-1, 1.19) would throw almost 7 innings of shutout ball before giving way to lefty closer Woodie Fryman, who would notch a 2+ inning save. Montreal didn't wait for late inning heroics this time by striking quickly for 2 runs in the home half of the first off of Met starter Rick Reed (2-2, 3.27). Warren Cromartie led off with a slicing opposite field double that Rickey Henderson kind of loafed after. Once Henderson retrieved the ball he chose to make no throw into second. Reed fanned Tony Bernazard, who was making his first start of the year after being called up on September 1st. Larry Parrish, who has really been slumping of late stepped up and crushed Reed's second pitch over the fence for a 2 run shot. Neither Reed or Henderson, the left fielder, bothered to turn around or move. Parrish's shot was of the tape measure variety
and just like that the Expos had a 2-0 lead.
Montreal would again score in the 4th when the aforementioned

Bernazard was able to redeem himself with a bases loaded single to score Ellis Valentine who walked to lead off the inning. To his credit Reed was able to buckle up his chinstrap and get two dangerous hitters (Parrish and Carter) to make out and end Montreal's threat to break the game wide open. Reed went the distance and only yielded 3 runs, but on a day like this where his offensive support was no existent that type of performance would not be enough. New York managed just 5 hits off of Lee who has a knack for flirting with danger and just barely escaping. By all estimations Lee did not have his best stuff, but he found a way to keep his team's hopes alive in what looks like a Cy Young season for him (shameless plug for the voters, LOL !).
